EU Foreign Policy Chief to Visit Cuba on March 23-24

 EU's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini is due to visit Cuban capital Havana on March 23 – 24 to discuss the prospects of EU-Cuba cooperation, a press release on the EU External Action website said Saturday...

"Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, will visit Havana on 23 and 24 March," the press release read.

Her visit is the first one paid to Cuba by the EU top diplomat and comes at the times of nearly year-long talks between the two sides.

"Cuba is facing a very interesting period and the European Union is keen to see how we can take the relationship forward with strong momentum," Mogherini was quoted as saying in the press release.

During her visit, Mogherini will hold meetings with her counterpart Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, Archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Ortega, as well as with representatives of civil society and government, according to the press release.

Overshadowed by the rapprochement between the Washington and Havana, the European Union took part in the third round of negotiations on a bilateral cooperation agreement in Cuban capital on March 4 – 5.

The EU-Cuba talks at the beginning of March marked the first meeting of the European bloc and the Caribbean island nation since the United States announced the launch of process of restoring relations in December 2014.
