The facility near Florina (MACEDONIA), a town known as “Where Greece Begins,” is the most modern of four production units that state-controlled Public Power Corp. (PPC) is scheduled to sell to competitors to meet four-year-old European Union demands that the country deregulate its energy market.

Macedonia News el: We’re drinking too much water ...

A recent study by university lecturer Spero Tsindos has uncovered that we are drinking far too much water than our bodies need ....
Drinking up to eight glasses of water a day to stay healthy, and in some cases lose weight, may be nothing but a myth, says Melbourne academic Spero Tsindos.
The La Trobe University lecturer told Neos Kosmos there is no proof that drinking two litres of water a day - as suggested - has health benefits, and says that the belief could stem from guidelines published over 60 years ago. He says that this common misconception has entered our psyche and humans now believe that by drinking two litres of water, we are flushing out toxins from our body, cleansing our insides and also aiding with weight loss.

Macedonia News el: Every Greek is an ambassador for Greece ...

I am a Greek, who was born in Egypt and who migrated to Australia with my parents at age seven. I always had the strong sense that I am Greek and I have always been proud of that. It was mainly my parents who cultivated this love for my country from a young age, however, I believe that what also played a big role is the fact that we lived, and still live, far from our country of origin. This has created the need to become more connected with our culture.

Macedonia News el: New elections looming for Greece ...

Macedonia News el

(News from real/true Macedonia, Greece [1] , [2])

The leader of Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) Alexis Tsipras is due to meet the heads of PASOK and New Democracy but his slim chances of forming a unity government seem to have disappeared and Greece is likely to hold new elections next month.
Tsipras spent Tuesday, the first of three days he is permitted to try to form a government, in talks with leftist parties but had mixed success in convincing them to support his effort to form an administration that would challenge the terms of Greece’s bailout. However, the SYRIZA leader’s decision to set out certain terms for any cooperation, including the rejection of the loan deal with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, prompted a strong reaction from PASOK and New Democracy, which made it clear that there is hardly any ground for agreement.

The national elections are being held in Greece on Sunday and votes are certain to be driven by emotion and frustration, as the people seek a party to inspire and help the country rise up from the past three years that has seen Greece become a dirty word in the eurozone.

Ancient Greeks made the observation initially, however, there have been a couple of cases of cancer patients entering spontaneous remission after being exposed to common viruses.

Macedonia News el: Greeks in Germany see varied reactions from hosts ...

Greeks who study, work or live in Germany are increasingly having to answer uncomfortable questions such as how much money their parents make back home and how Greece spent European Union funding.
For example, Athina, a 23-year-old medical student at Tuebingen, told Kathimerini how one of her classmates became especially critical when discussing the Egnatia Odos highway in northern Greece (Thraki-Macedonia-Epirus), which was built with EU funds and which, he said, is sadly underused.
"Many believe that we are living with their money," said Athina, citing several examples where she has been made to feel uncomfortable by people criticizing Greece and Greeks.

A city full of resources but short on Euros, Volos tapped into an old-school bartering system to survive in a time of crisis ...
As the financial crisis hits citizens of Greece, and unemployment reaches an all-time high of 28 per cent, one city has fought back by creating an old-school bartering system for it's folk.
The coastal city of Volos (Thessalia) has developed it's own currency called TEMs which allows citizens to barter for things that money used to buy. Food, education, clothing and even baby-sitters are being bartered in the city using the TEMs network.
Folks in the area sign up for a TEMs network account, and start amassing credits that can eventually be cashed in for things they need.
