A Pakistani university attacked by a faction of the Taliban last month killing 21 people has reopened.

Bacha Khan University in the northwestern city of Charsadda welcomed back students to its campus Monday.

Fazal Rahim Marwat, the university's vice chancellor, told the French News Agency he was "happy to announce that the university has been re-opened today, but amid very strict security."

He said the university was re-opened with the objective "to defeat the mindset of militants, which was behind the terrorist attack of January 20th."

Khalifa Umar Mansoor, the leader of the breakaway Taliban group that claimed responsibility for the January raid has described Pakistan's educational institutions as "nurseries" for those who challenge Allah's law.

He promised more attacks on schools and universities across the country.
