MOSCOW, August 25. /ITAR-TASS/. The political process of building a modern democratic state in Libya on the ruins of the Gaddafi regime overthrown in 2011 has come to a dead end, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“We can state that the political process of building a modern democratic state in Libya on the ruins of the Gaddafi regime dismantled in 2011 has definitively come to a dead end,” it said.
“The situation in Libya is developing from bad to worse. As large-scale fighting is escalating in the east and west of the country, primarily in Benghazi and Tripoli, the whole system of power created in the ‘post-revolutionary’ period is falling apart,” the ministry said.
“We are convinced that the present chaos in Libya is a direct result of the irresponsible interference by the United States and its NATO allies in the internal Libyan conflict in order to remove the Gaddafi regime and forcibly ‘democratise’ the country,” the ministry said. “The people of Libya now have to pay for that with thousands of civilian lives lost in the bloody strife and the ruined socioeconomic infrastructure.”
The ministry said “the future of the country will depend on the outcome of the armed confrontation between different territorial and tribal groups which are fighting for political power, and natural and financial resources and some of which publicly support extremist Islamist ideas”.

ReplyDelete"We strongly condemn the escalation of fighting in and around Tripoli, Benghazi and across Libya, including attacks on residential areas involving air strikes by unidentified fighter jets.
We reject the pursuit of political goals through the use of armed force, and insist that broad-based political dialogue is the only solution to address the current crisis. Those responsible for such violence, which undermines Libya's democratic transition and national security, must be held accountable.
We welcome the planned discussions at the United Nations Security Council in the coming
days, on the political and security situation in Libya as well as on the consequences for those
who undermine Libya’s peace and stability. We reiterate our call that all parties accept an immediate ceasefire.
We recognise the democratic legitimacy of the House of Representatives and underline that
it should make every effort to represent all Libyans. We call on Libya’s interim Government and House of Representatives to urgently establish a truly inclusive government capable of addressing the Libyan people’s aspirations for security, reconciliation, and prosperity. We also encourage the Constitutional Drafting Assembly to immediately pursue its work towards the drafting of a document that will enshrine and protect the rights of all Libyans.
We reject unilateral outside interference in Libya, which exacerbates current divisions and
undermine s Libya’s democratic transition."
