Wie aus den Dokumenten hervorgeht, welche die Agentur erhalten hat, wurden mindestens zehn Versuche mit biologischen Waffen durchgeführt. Sie belegen, dass die Amerikaner pathogene Pilzsporen über Reisfelder versprüht hatten. Es wird allerdings nicht angegeben, ob die Tests auf den US-Militärstützpunkten oder außerhalb von deren Gelände vorgenommen wurden.
Auf der Insel Okinawa seien Weizen und Reis versuchsweise einer Infizierung mit Stengelrost ausgesetzt worden, heißt es ferner. Im Ergebnis sei es gelungen, „Teilerfolge beim Sammeln nützlicher Informationen zu erzielen“.
Analoge Versuche wurden auch in Taiwan vorgenommen, heißt es in einem weiteren Dokument, das der Agentur zur Verfügung steht.
Okinawa, Japans südlichste Präfektur, war 1945 bis 1972 von den US-Truppen besetzt. Derzeit sind dort 14 US-Stützpunkte auf einer Fläche stationiert, die 18 Prozent der Insel ausmacht. Die größten davon sind der Marinestützpunkt Futenma und der Luftstützpunkt Kadena.

ReplyDeleteDes militaires américains ont mené au moins une dizaine d'essais d'armes biologiques entre 1961 et 1962 sur le territoire de l'actuelle préfecture japonaise d'Okinawa, rapporte dimanche l'agence Kyodo.
D'après les documents obtenus par l'agence, des essais de pulvérisation de spores d'un champignon pathogène causant la pyriculariose du riz ont été réalisés dans les districts de Nago et de Shuri.
La dispersion de champignons pathogènes le long de champs a été également effectuée à Taiwan, indique l'agence sans fournir plus de détails.
Les forces US ont pris le contrôle d'Okinawa en 1945. Jusqu'en 1972, le territoire a été contrôlé par l'administration civile américaine des îles Ryükyü. A l'heure actuelle, Okinawa abrite 14 bases militaires américaines, dont Futenma et Kadena.
La population locale se prononce contre la présence de bases militaires US sur l'île. Le ressentiment anti-américain s'est notamment accru dans le pays en 1997, lorsque des soldats américains avaient enlevé et violé une écolière japonaise.

US tested bioweapons in Japan's Okinawa in 1960s ...
ReplyDeleteThe American army conducted experiments with biological weapons aimed at destroying rice crops on the Japanese island of Okinawa in the 60s. The alleged target of the tests was the China and Southeast Asia region.
Mr Bjorn Berdal from Oslo - a professor in a hospital belonging to the Norwegian armed forces, whose background includes 20 years experience with the United Nations Geneva on Biological Weapons disarmament expressed his opinion on this issue.
Speaking about Kyodo news agency report about the US conducting field experiments of biological weapons in Okinawa Mr Bjorn Berdal said that it is full of interesting details concerning biological weapons and the disarmament, they are all of the dual purpose between civilian and military use of knowledge and information.
Bjorn Berdal thinks it is very interesting because it highlights the difference between what happened 50 years ago and what we are experiencing today after coming of the Biological Weapons Convention.
50 years ago we had the Cold War and basically all information that was produced in the opposing parts during the Cold War – it was first and foremost military property and then it was civilian. Today it is quite different because especially in agriculture the civilian sector is huge. It is not really a military use anymore.
