 China and Russia have accused the United States of trying to divide the world. Both have hit out after being left out of a democracy summit being organised by US President Joe Biden.

 However, Taiwan is on the guest list, prompting further outrage from Beijing. 110 governments have been invited to Washington's first-ever democracy summit. 

The virtual Summit for Democracy, which takes place online on Dec 9 and 10, is aimed at promoting freedoms and human rights worldwide.
