Η Ιταλία επιδιώκει μεγαλύτερη βοήθεια από τους Ευρωπαίους εταίρους προκειμένου να αντιμετωπίσει την κρίση που προκλήθηκε από τους χιλιάδες Αφρικανούς μετανάστες που κατέφθασαν στη Σικελία φέτος και εκατοντάδες έχουν χάσει τη ζωή τους στην αναζήτηση μιας νέας αρχής.
«Έχουμε… υποψίες ότι μεταξύ των μεταναστών υπάρχουν στοιχεία της τζιχάντ και μέλη της Αλ Κάιντα», είπε σε συνέντευξη Τύπου η Bonino κατά τη διάρκεια συνεδρίασης των Ευρωπαίων ΥΠΕΞ που συζήτησαν το θέμα.
Τόνισε ότι προς το παρόν δε θα μιλήσει για τρομοκρατική απειλή αλλά αντίθετα για «απειλή για την ασφάλεια» που θέτουν οι τζιχαντιστές.
Η Ιταλία θέλει η ΕΕ να ξεκινήσει μια αποστολή κατά της εμπορίας ανθρώπων και του οργανωμένου εγκλήματος στην περιοχή της Μεσογείου στο πλαίσιο κοινής πολιτικής ασφάλειας.
- Η Ύπατη Εκπρόσωπος Εξωτερικής Πολιτικής της ΕΕ Catherine Ashton είπε ότι οι Ευρωπαίοι ΥΠΕΞ συζήτησαν για τις επιπτώσεις στην ασφάλεια των «28» από την παράνομη μετανάστευση.
- Περισσότεροι από 32.000 μετανάστες από την Αφρική και τη Μέση Ανατολή έχουν καταφθάσει στην Ιταλία και τη Μάλτα φέτος, σύμφωνα με στοιχεία της Ύπατης Αρμοστείας του ΟΗΕ για τους Πρόσφυγες, με πολλούς μάλιστα να έχουν ως σημείο εκκίνησης τα «άναρχα» λιμάνια της Λιβύης.
Ανησυχίες και στη Βουλγαρία
Η Βουλγαρία, η οποία επίσης έχει πληγεί από μεγάλο κύμα προσφύγων από τη Συρία, έχει εκφράσει ανησυχίες ότι κάποιοι από τους πρόσφυγες ίσως ανήκουν σε τρομοκρατικές οργανώσεις. Η Σόφια είναι αντιμέτωπη με 7.000 πρόσφυγες από τη Συρία.
Η χώρα ακόμη φαίνεται να έχει στραφεί για βοήθεια στο Ισραήλ.
Μιλώντας στην κρατική τηλεόραση, ο αναπληρωτής πρωθυπουργός και υπουργός εσωτερικών Tsvetlin Yovchev είπε στις 18 Νοεμβρίου ότι το Ισραήλ, που επισκέφθηκε λίγες μέρες πριν, θα βοηθήσει τη Βουλγαρία για τη διασφάλιση της κατάστασης των προσφύγων χάρη στην εμπειρία που έχει το Τελ Αβίβ επί του θέματος.
Επιβεβαίωσε τις πληροφορίες περί ύπαρξης τζιχαντιστών στη Συρία, που σκοπεύουν να επιστρέψουν στην Ευρώπη- πιθανώς μέσω Βουλγαρίας. Ωστόσο διαβεβαίωσε ότι η βουλγαρική κυβέρνηση θα κάνει ό, τι είναι δυνατό να κρατήσει τους τρομοκράτες εκτός της χώρας.

- Italian foreign chief warns Al Qaeda members may be among migrants
Al Qaeda members may be among thousands of
migrants crossing the Mediterranean by boat from Africa to Europe,
posing a potential security risk for the European Union, Italy's Foreign
Minister Emma Bonino said on Monday (18 November).
"We ... have suspicions that among the immigrants there are jihadist elements and members of al Qaeda," Bonino told a news conference during an EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels which discussed the issue.
She said that at the moment she would not talk about a terrorism threat, but rather "a security threat" posed by the jihadists.
Italy wants the EU to launch a mission against human trafficking and organised crime in the Mediterranean under the bloc's common security policy.

Refugee wave, political crisis in spotlight at Bulgaria national security council meeting...
ReplyDeleteThe refugee inflow and Bulgaria’s response to it, as well as the continued domestic political crisis were, predictably, the focus of the Consultative Council on National Security meeting on November 20.
The council, convened by, brings together the head of government, ministers and other top officials with security, intelligence and other strategic portfolios, as well as the leaders of the parties with seats in the National Assembly.
In a brief statement after the meeting, which went on for nearly six hours, President Rossen Plevneliev said that the participants agreed that Bulgaria needed to step up its efforts to deal with the refugee inflow, but also underscored the need to seek concerted action at European Union level on this issue. All Bulgarian institutions should pursue available avenues of securing financial, expert and technical aid from the EU and EU member states, Plevneliev said.
Furthermore, political parties and state institutions should make all possible effort to prevent “any attempt to endanger ethnic peace in Bulgaria, the spread of xenophobia and hate,” Plevneliev said.
The sole voice of dissent was, equally predictably, the leader of nationalist party Ataka, Volen Siderov, who left the meeting shortly before it ended. Speaking to reporters outside the Presidency, he said that his party’s proposal to secure the border with Turkey and expel all illegal immigrants that pose a threat to Bulgaria’s security had been rejected. He also said that the accusations of heightened xenophobia as a result of the growing refugee inflow were baseless.
