Following Palmyra Castle, Syrian Army Cuts off Palmyra-Raqqa Road

Syrian army, backed by Hezbollah fighters and Russian warplanes, kept on advancing Homs countryside on Saturday, a day after the allied forces retook the ancient city’s castle.

Field sources told al-Manar that the Syrian army and Hezbollah cut off Palmyra-Raqqa road in a bid to cut off supplu route to ISIL insurgents.

The sources added that the allied forces established control on the town of Al-Amiriyah, northwest of Palmyra following fierce clashes with Takfiri group, ISIL (so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Levant).

  • "The clashes are taking place now in the Amiriyah neighborhood, which is Daesh's gateway into the city," AFP news agency quoted another Syrian military source as saying, referring to Arabic acronym of ISIL.

Meanwhile, the sources told al-Manar that the Syrian air forces were combating the area near Palmyra, adding that several arms were seized in the area.
