De Mistura : Agenda of Syrian dialogue in Geneva will be determined after arrival of all participants

UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura announced on Wednesday that the Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva will be launched officially next Monday and is due to last until March 24th.

De Mistura said in a statement to reporters that preparations for the dialogue started on Monday, noting that the United Nations representatives have arrived, adding that the final agenda of the dialogue will be determined after the arrival of all participants.

“During this period there will be deepening in the content of the dialogue more quickly in order to analyze its key points and a focus on the issues of the national government, elections and constitution,” De Mistaura said.

  • De Mistura added that the UN believes that the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria is for an indefinite period, pointing out that a large number of cities and villages in Syria had received humanitarian aid.

De Mistura suspended the first round of dialogue because of the opposition’s insistence to put preconditions to hinder the formation of an opposition delegation of broad representation in accordance with the UN resolution NO.2254 and Vienna statements.

  • Tehran: Solving the crisis in Syria is dependent on respecting territorial integrity

In a relevant context, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian affirmed that resolving the crisis in Syria is dependent on respecting and protecting  territorial integrity.

Abdullahian, in a phone call de Mistura, pointed out to the need for avoiding acts that lead to strengthening the terrorist organizations.

The two sides exchanged viewpoints on the latest developments in the region and the Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva.

For his part, de Mistura hoped that Geneva talks would make way to solve the crisis in Syria in the near future.
