Hungary to close 3 railway crossings with Croatia for a month

Hungary's Interior Minister Sandor Pinter has ordered to close three railway crossings with Croatia for 30 days from Sunday.

The decree from Pinter was published in the Thursday issue of Hungarian Gazette. The three railway crossings are Murakeresztur-Kotoriba, Gyekenyes-Koprivnica and Magyarboly-Beli Manastir.

Migrants heading to Germany entered Hungary through these crossings in 2015.

In order to protect public safety, all persons, vehicles and cargo are not allowed to cross these railway crossings, Pinter said. But he also said that exceptions can be made at Gyekenyes-Koprivnica on an ad hoc basis, if the state border is not threatened.

About 391 thousand migrants crossed Hungary's borders illegally last year, of whom more that 185 thousand migrants entered Hungary from Croatia.

Hungary closed down its border with Croatia on October 17, 2015.

The blockade at the Hungary-Croatia border forced thousands of migrants to be diverted to Slovenia.
