Assad said the smuggling of fighters from Saudi Arabia via Turkey

Syria’s President suggested the smuggling of terrorists into Syria from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. He stated this in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, which published Sunday, February 21.

“Saudi Arabia is the main financier of these terrorists. They are put on planes, sent to Turkey and from there to Syria,” said Assad. He added that “Turkey sent terrorists… and from the beginning involved in the events in Syria”.

In this regard, he found it impossible to land operation of the Turkish or Saudi troops on its territory. “It’s an excuse. If this happens, we will treat them as terrorists. We protect our country. No one has the right to invade Syria — from the political or military point of view,” said Assad.

He said that foreigners fighting on the side of armed groups, the Syrian authorities are treated like other terrorists.

However, the President promised Amnesty to disarmed opposition groups. “We will declare an Amnesty, and it happened in the past two years and in recent years more and more,” said Assad.

He noted that “from the point of view of the law and the Constitution, all who will turn their guns against the people and the government — terrorists — in their own country, in our country or any other country in the world”.

The negotiations on the settlement of the Syrian conflict in Geneva suspended to 25 February. “The UN cannot afford to procedural issues became more important than the resolution of the humanitarian problems of the Syrian people. So I decided to make a temporary pause. It’s not the end of the negotiations,” said the UN special envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura.
