Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu warned on Monday that any participation of Syrian Kurdish forces in UN-sponsored talks on Syria would be dangerous and would spell the end of the initiative seeking to end the nearly five-year conflict.
Çavuşoğlu said Turkey considers the Syrian Kurdish forces, People's Protection Units (YPG), "terrorists," accusing them of cooperating with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who are banned in Turkey. He says they have no place among the opposition at the Geneva talks.
The UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, was to speak to media in Geneva later on Monday about plans for the long-awaited talks that should start this week between the Syrian government and opposition representatives...
