Taiwan heads to the polls in presidential, legislative elections

Taiwan's voters head to the polls Saturday to cast their ballots in closely watched presidential and legislative elections that could impact the island's ties with political rival China.

Polling stations open at 8 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m. Results are expected to be known later in the evening.

There are some 18 million eligible voters, but cold weather that is forecast is expected to dampen turnout.
