Demarcation of Russian-Lithuanian border completed in Russia’s Kaliningrad region

Boundary demarcation between Russia and Lithuania has been finished in Russia’s westernmost Kaliningrad region after nine years of work, a TASS correspondent reported from the town of Nesterovo where the last, 572nd, boundary marker was placed on Monday.

"The boundary demarcation is actually over. Documents will be finalized within a year. We have reached a phase of normal partner relations [with Lithuania - TASS] and have no disputes about the border," Kaliningrad governor Nikolai Tsukanov said at the ceremony. 

The Kaliningrad region is Russia’s westernmost exclave encircled by European Union states. 

The length of its borders with Poland and Lithuania, including sea sections in the Vistula Lagoon and Curonian Lagoon, is 648.3 kilometers, of which land border with Poland runs for 236.3 kilometers, and with Lithuania - for 285.9 kilometers. The borders of the three states meet in the vicinity of Lake Vistytis. 

Demarcation of the 285.9-kilometer-long Russian-Lithuanian border started in 2006. Currently, boundary markers of the new type are being installed along the Russian-Polish border. The works are planned to be completed in 2016. More than 400 boundary markers are to be placed.
