Russia Still Awaits UK Response on ISIL Targets in Syria

London has not provided Moscow with any information on Islamic State targets in Syria yet, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko said Saturday.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Russian Embassy in London said Russia had asked the UK assistance in establishing contacts with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in order to better coordinate efforts in the fight against ISIL in the country.

FSA is an armed Syrian opposition faction considered moderate by Western countries, which seek the removal of Syrian President Bashar Assad from power.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was willing to reach out to FSA to discuss collaboration in the fight against ISIL militants in Syria.

"Ready to cooperate with UK. Still waiting for information from the British side on ISIS targets in Syria," Yakovenko wrote on Twitter.

Russia began precision airstrikes against ISIL targets last week at Assad’s request.
