DPRK (North Korea) deploys more fire units to frontlines with S. Korea

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) forward-deployed more fire units to the frontline areas with South Korea after exchanging fires near the west border, local media reported Friday citing the South Korean military.

DPRK forces deployed more fire units south to the frontlines, which had been already packed with major DPRK artilleries such as 240-mm multiple rocket launchers and 170-mm self-propelled howitzers.

The forward deployment came after South Korea and the DPRK traded fires Thursday over the resumption of the propaganda broadcasts.

South Korea resumed blaring the propaganda message with loudspeakers from Aug. 10, which the DPRK called a declaration of war.

The resumption came as two South Korean soldiers were maimed on Aug. 4 following the explosion of landmines, which South Korea claimed had been planted by the DPRK. Pyongyang denied any role in the blast.

The DPRK warned Thursday that South Korea should dismantle the loudspeakers in border areas within 48 hours from 5 p.m. (0800 GMT) or face military actions conducted by the DPRK.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered his frontline troops to be on a war footing, state media says, after an exchange of fire with the South across their heavily fortified border.

The KCNA report said Mr Kim declared a "semi-state of war" at an emergency meeting late Thursday.

It threatened action unless Seoul ends its anti-Pyongyang border broadcasts.

The North often uses fierce rhetoric when tensions rise and it has made similar declarations before.

The BBC's South Korea correspondent Steve Evans says that although this ritual of aggression often sees such language escalate to the firing of ammunition, this time the rhetoric is fiercer and and artillery shells are now in use.

KCNA reported that Mr Kim had ordered that troops be "fully ready for any military operations at any time" from 17:00 Friday local time (01:30 GMT), at the emergency meeting of the central military commission...........http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-34013475

  1. North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un ordered his frontline troops onto a war footing from Friday, as military tensions with South Korea soared following a rare exchange of artillery shells across their heavily fortified border...

South Korean forces are already on maximum alert after the North's military issued an ultimatum on Thursday for Seoul to switch off loudspeakers blasting propaganda over the border within 48 hours or face concerted military action.

An emergency meeting late Thursday of the North's powerful Central Military Commission (CMC) — chaired by Kim Jong-Un — endorsed the ultimatum and ratified plans for "a retaliatory strike and counterattack on the whole length of the front".

According to the official KCNA news agency, Kim ordered frontline, combined units of the Korean People's Army (KPA) to "enter a wartime state" from Friday 5:00 pm (0800 GMT).

The troops should be "fully battle ready to launch surprise operations" while the entire frontline should be placed in a "semi-war state", KCNA quoted him as saying.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff responded with a direct message to the KPA, urging it to refrain from any "reckless acts" and warning that it would react strongly to any further provocation.

North Korea has made similar announcements at times of high tension in the past, most recently in 2013 when Kim declared "a state of war" with the South..................http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/rest-of-world/North-Koreas-Kim-Jong-Un-puts-frontline-troops-on-war-footing/articleshow/48568644.cms
