Syrian state TV confirms Israeli strikes on Golan, says only material damage done.

Syrian state TV confirms Israeli strikes on Golan, reporting that only material damage had been inflicted.

The IDF launched artillery fire at targets in Syria on Thursday evening hours after four rockets were fired from the country deep into northern Israel, with the IDF saying Syria would suffer the consequences for rocket strikes on the Israeli home front.

Two of the rockets struck open areas in the Golan Heights and two others landed in the Upper Galilee far from the border with Syria. The IDF said they were fired at Israel from the center of the Syrian Golan Heights.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Office said Thursday that “we see Syria as responsible [for the rockets] and they will suffer the consequences.”

  1. Israel fires missiles into Syria after rocket attack....

An Israeli aircraft has fired missiles at a building in Syria's Golan Heights in response to a rocket strike on an Israeli village, according to reports.

Syrian state TV said "several missiles" had hit a transport centre and public building in the Height's Quneitra area.

Earlier rockets landed near a village in northern Israel. There are no reports of injuries in either attack.

Israeli officials blamed the rocket strike on the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, which denied the claim.

A statement released by the Israeli military said the rockets that hit the upper Galilee region "were launched from the Syrian Golan Heights... by Islamic Jihad, sponsored by Iran".

The statement went on to say that Israel "holds the Syrian government responsible for attacks emanating from Syria".............http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34009296

  2. Syrian army says Israeli strike against Golan base kills one soldier...

An Israeli air strike against a Syrian military outpost in the Golan Heights killed one soldier and wounded seven, a Syrian army source said on Friday, during the heaviest night of Israeli bombardment since the start of Syria's four-year-old conflict.

State television said Israeli jets attacked a base on Thursday night in the Quneitra area, near the Israeli-occupied section of the Golan region.

The Israeli army said it retaliated against rockets by an Iranian-backed Palestinian faction that hit an Israeli village, setting off fires but causing no casualties.

A UK based monitor and defense experts who track Syria said the Israeli raids on Thursday against several major army bases in the area were the heaviest attacks on Syrian army targets since the start of the crisis in 2011.

Israeli media said the overnight exchange was the first shelling of Israeli targets from Syria since the 1973 war, and the most intensive Israeli shelling of Syria since then as well.

Previous attacks have mainly targeted supply routes and arms depots of Syrian President Bashar al Assad's Lebanese ally Hezbollah inside Syria.

Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon said the rocket fire from Syria was a result of a more aggressive Iranian policy following a nuclear deal signed between Tehran and the West that Israel says has emboldened its archenemy.

He challenged Tehran not to test "our determination"...............reuters.com
