Saudi-Led Coalition in Yemen to Pause Airstrikes for Aid Delivery

The coalition of Arab states intends to suspend the airstrikes it has been conducting against Houthi rebels in Yemen to deliver humanitarian aid, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir said Monday.

CAIRO (Sputnik) – The minister also warned Houthi rebels in Yemen against any attempts to use the suspension of strikes to interfere with aid delivery.

"We will stop the airstrikes at a certain time to deliver humanitarian aid," Jubeir said in an address broadcast by Al-Arabiya.

Yemen has been torn by clashes between Houthi opposition forces and government troops.

The rebels seized capital Sanaa, forcing Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to resign in January and flee the country.

The president later renounced his resignation and asked the Arab League for military support. Following Hadi's request, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition in March started launching airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen.
