Pakistan accuses India of violating ceasefire agreement

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Thursday accused India of "targeting the civilian population" on the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region and working boundary in " clear violation a 2003 ceasefire agreement."

The two countries accuse each other of ceasefire violation as the recent escalations caused casualties on both sides.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan has highlighted the issue of the "unprovoked Indian firing on LoC and Working Boundary at the United Nations and other fora."

"The UN has a responsibility to make UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan more effective to deal with the ceasefire violations," she told the weekly briefing in Islamabad.

Tasnim Aslam said according to an agreement about the working boundary, that separates India and Pakistan in Punjab province, both countries cannot carryout constructions within 500 meters.

"India is trying to construct new bunkers in violation of the agreement, which Pakistan will not allow," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said as on the other side of Line of Control, there are also Kashmiri brothers and sisters, that's why Pakistan has always given measured response to unprovoked Indian firing and shelling on the civilians on the Pakistani side.

Meanwhile Pakistan's National Assembly on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution, strongly condemning the unprovoked and indiscriminate ceasefire violations by India on Line of Control and Working Boundary resulting into loss of human and material losses.

The resolution was moved by Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affair Sartaj Aziz in the lower house of the parliament after winding up debate on the situation arising out of Indian firing.

The resolution called upon the government that while pursuing bilateral dialogue with India, the issue should be raised at the UN and with the international community urging them to play their role in resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiri people.

The house expressed heartfelt condolences with the bereaved families and prayed for full recovery of those who sustained injuries in Indian firing.
