Moscow stands for comprehensive, fair solution to Cypriot problems

Moscow stands for a comprehensive and fair solution to the Cypriot problem in the interests of Cyprus’ both communities, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday at a meeting with President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations Organization in New York, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Lavrov and Anastasiadis “discussed the current state of and prospects for Russia-Cyprus cooperation, including in the legal sphere,” the ministry said. “The sides exchanged view on a number of pressing international problems, including the current situation in relations between Russia and the European Union over the Ukrainian crisis.”

The Russian side “reiterated its position in favour of a comprehensive, viable and fair solution to the Cypriot problem in the interests of both communities in Cyprus and ensuring sustainable security in Eastern Mediterranean,” the ministry said.
