Russia-Greek Bilateral Tourism Year due in 2016. - Last year, 1.175 million of Russian citizens holidayed in Greece

The Russia-Greece Bilateral Year of Tourism will be held in 2016, Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism) says.

The agency commented on Monday’s meeting between Rostourism deputy head Grigory Sarishvili and a Greek delegation led by Foreign Ministry Secretary General Panagiotis Mihalos.

Major events in the field of tourism will be held within the Year, Rostourism says.
A Russian delegation led by presidential envoy for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi is expected to travel to Greece in September 2014, Rostourism says.

In the meantime, “Greece said despite the situation in Ukraine and the EU’s position on this issue, nothing will change in Russian-Greek relations: visa regulations will not be toughened and Russian tourists will be able to travel to Greece”, it says.

“In the previous two years Greece met with difficulties. Today Russia’s active work has allowed Greece to reach a new level,” Rostourism says.

Last year, 1.175 million of Russian citizens holidayed in Greece. A total of 14,500 Greek tourists visited Russia in 2013, Rostourism says.
