Russian inspectors to make TOS observation flight over Greece

MOSCOW, February 17, 5:23 /ITAR-TASS/. A Russian group of inspectors is to make an observation flight aboard a Russian observation plane An-30B over the territory of Greece within a period from Feb 17 to 21 in implementation of the international Treaty on Open Skies (TOS), Sergei Ryzhkov, head of the national Nuclear Risk Reduction Center (NRRC) told Itar-Tass on Monday.

The observation flight will be made from TOS airfield Nea Anchialos to a maximum distance of up to 1,010 km with a view to promoting greater openness and transparency in the military activities of the States that are Parties to the Treaty, as well as to consolidating security through enhancing confidence-building measures, Ryzhkov said.

"Th Russian observation plane will make the flight along a route fixed with the observed side, while Greek specialists on board will monitor the procedure for the use of observation equipment and compliance with the TOS provisions," Ryzhkov ponted out.

This will be this year's second observation flight of this kind over territories of TOS countries, the NRRC chief added.
