Ο μοναδικός σταθμός παραγωγής ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας της Λωρίδας της Γάζας διέκοψε τη λειτουργία του σήμερα Παρασκευή ελλείψει καυσίμων που προέρχονται από το Ισραήλ, ανακοίνωσε εκπρόσωπος της τοπικής ηλεκτρικής εταιρείας.
«Ο σταθμός διέκοψε τη λειτουργία του εξαιτίας της έλλειψης καυσίμων που προκλήθηκε από το κλείσιμο του συνοριακού περάσματος του Κερέμ Σαλόμ», ανακοίνωσε στο Γαλλικό Πρακτορείο Ειδήσεων ο υποδιευθυντής του σταθμού αναφερόμενος στην ισραηλινή απόφαση για το κλείσιμο του περάσματος έπειτα από σειρά αιματηρών επεισοδίων.
Ρεύμα για έξι ώρες
Η διακοπή λειτουργίας του σταθμού της Λωρίδας της Γάζας υποχρεώνει την εταιρεία να περιορίσει στις έξι ώρες την ηλεκτροδότηση, έναντι των 12 ωρών, κατά την κανονική λειτουργία του σταθμού.
Το κλείσιμο του συνοριακού περάσματος αποφασίσθηκε μετά τον θάνατο ενός Ισραηλινού που σκοτώθηκε από πυρά καθώς εργαζόταν κοντά στη μεθόριο με τη Λωρίδα της Γάζας. Σε αντίποινα, η ισραηλινή αεροπορία πραγματοποίησε επιδρομές στη Γάζα κατά τις οποίες σκοτώθηκε ένα παιδί, ενώ τουλάχιστον έξι ακόμη Παλαιστίνιοι τραυματίσθηκαν.
Ο υπουργός Αμυνας του Ισραήλ Μοσέ Γιααλόν ανακοίνωσε ότι το συνοριακό πέρασμα θα παραμείνει κλειστό «μέχρι νεοτέρας διαταγής».
Ο ηλεκτρικός σταθμός της Λωρίδας της Γάζας είχε αρχίσει να επαναλειτουργεί στις 15 Δεκεμβρίου, έπειτα από διακοπή που διήρκεσε ενάμισι μήνα.
Η διασυνοριακή βία σημειώνει έξαρση τα τελευταία 24ωρα καθώς την Τρίτη ένας ελεύθερος σκοπευτής από τη Λωρίδα της Γάζας πυροβόλησε και σκότωσε έναν Ισραηλινό πολίτη που βρισκόταν στην άλλη πλευρά των συνόρων.
Το Ισραήλ αντεπιτέθηκε με αεροπορικές επιδρομές σε δύο στρατόπεδα εκπαίδευσης της Χαμάς και σύμφωνα ιατρικές πηγές του νοσοκομείου της Γάζας σκοτώθηκε ένα κορίτσι που βρισκόταν κοντά σε ένα από τους στόχους.

An official of the company claimed "the plant stopped working on Friday morning due to a lack of fuel caused by Israel's closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing." He added that electricity would now be supplied for only 6 hours a day instead of the normal 12.
While officials from the territory's Islamist rulers were quick to blame Israel, in reality Egypt is largely involved after having shut down the tunnels into the Sinai that were used to illegally smuggle fuel. Gaza's power plant was initially shut down on November 1 under the Egyptian siege.
Egypt has accused the Hamas terrorist organization which rules Gaza of promoting terror in Egypt through the Muslim Brotherhood, which it is an offshoot of. Hamas denies the charges, although Egypt is continuing to act against the terror group.
As for the Kerem Shalom crossing, it reportedly was closed Tuesday after Gaza terrorists fatally shot an IDF civilian worker. The crossing had been used to deliver fuel purchased from Israel by the Palestinian Authority, using money donated by Qatar.
On Thursday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said of the incident "we thought there were 'game rules,' according to which you do not fire at civilians who work near the fence. Until now, they did not fire at civilians, and we will have to think what to do, if someone has changed the rules."
Tensions have risen after terrorists from Gaza fired 2 Kassam rockets at Israel in as many days. In response, the IAF has struck several terror targets in Gaza.
Just in late November, Hamas threatened Israel with genocide. The terror group also appears to be gathering long-range missiles for further assaults on Israel.
Meanwhile, recent reports indicate that Turkey has replaced Iran as the leading financial sponsor of Hamas since 2012, following a cooling of relations between the Sunni terrorist group and its former Shia Iranian sponsors.

The only power plant in the Gaza Strip shut down Friday, the electric company reportedly said.
According to an electric company official cited by AFP, the power plant stopped working due to a shortage in fuel. He blamed the Israeli government for this shortage, saying it was caused by Tuesday's closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing.
The Gaza Strip has largely relied on the fuel coming in from Egypt through the cross-border smuggling tunnels under Rafah over the past few years. But since Egypt demolished hundreds of smuggling tunnels earlier this year, the Hamas government has become more dependent on the fuel that comes from Israel.
Short on fuel, the lone Gaza power plant has ceased to serve nearly half the population of 1.8 million. Patchy alternative supplies of electricity from Israel's grid have meant 12-hour blackouts every day.
The electric company official said the power station's closure meant only half the amount of electricity would be available, limiting electricity supplies to six hours a day instead of 12.
This is power station's second shutdown in two months.
On November 1, the plant shut down due to a fuel shortage. On December 15, Israel allowed 450,000 liters of fuel into the Gaza Strip to enable the Palestinian territory's sole power plant to resume operations. The delivery of fuel was purchased from Israel by the Palestinian Authority using funds donated by Qatar.
Qatar had answered an appeal by Gaza's government after four days of torrential rains that killed two people and forced the evacuation of more than 5,000 residents from flooded homes, some accessible only by boat.
During the storm, Israel opened the Kerem Shalom crossing for gas and water pumps for coping with the floods. It was through this crossing that the Qatari fuel made its way into the Strip.
But the border crossing was closed by Israel on Tuesday following a string of violent cross-border incidents between Gaza militants and Israeli soldiers.

L’unique centrale de la bande de Gaza, a cessé de fonctionner vendredi faute d’un approvisionnement en fuel en provenance d’Israël, a indiqué un responsable de la compagnie d’électricité locale. «La centrale a cessé de fonctionner vendredi matin en raison du manque de fuel provoqué par la fermeture du point de passage de Kerem Shalom», a annoncé à l’AFP le directeur adjoint de la centrale, qui faisait allusion à la décision prise mardi par Israël de fermer ce point de passage à la suite d’une série d’incidents sanglants.
Selon le directeur adjoint, la fermeture de la centrale va contraindre la compagnie à limiter à nouveau à six heures par jour l’approvisionnement en électricité, contre 12 heures lorsque la centrale fonctionne. La fermeture de Kerem Shalom a été décidée après la mort d’un Israélien tué par des tirs alors qu’il travaillait près de la frontière entre la bande de Gaza et le territoire israélien. Gaza power plant back online as fuel supply resumes....
ReplyDeleteThe Gaza Strip's only power plant returned to life after Israel resumed fuel deliveries on Sunday, a Palestinian official said, two days after a lack of supplies halted electricity production.
"The plant resumed functioning with the provision of fuel, which restarted with the reopening in the morning of the Kerem Shalom crossing," the official told AFP.
The power plant stopped working on Friday due to the closure of the border crossing where goods transit between Israel and the besieged Palestinian enclave.
The Israeli decision to close the crossing came after a Palestinian sniper shot dead an Israeli man working near the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
The plant, which supplies some 30 percent of Gaza's electricity needs, fell silent on November 1 as stocks of diesel ran out.
The power station returned to life on December 15 after receiving a delivery of fuel purchased from Israel by the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority using funds donated by Qatar.
The PA helped facilitate the delivery via Israel, which the Islamist Hamas rulers of Gaza do not recognise.
An Israeli security official denied the closure of Kerem Shalom was responsible for the lack of fuel at the power plant, saying it was a result of a conflict between Hamas and the PA.
But Gisha, an Israeli non-governmental organisation that lobbies for freedom of movement for Palestinians, accused Israel of carrying out mass punishment of civilians in Gaza by closing the crossing.
