Bulgaria No Longer Poorest in EU PM Vows on Unification Day

Beginning 2013, Bulgaria will no longer be the poorest country in Europe, Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has promised.
The statement was made Thursday in the second largest city in Plovdiv (Φιλιππούπολη) with Borisov saying that the country is on the right track; it has reached the best level of competitiveness, thus there are serious reasons to expect the increase of income of all Bulgarians.

Borisov is in Plovdiv for the celebration of the 127th anniversary of Bulgaria's Unification.
While in the city, he visited the "St. Patriarch Evtimiy" school where there are plans to build a multifunctional sports facility for the amount of BGN 1 M.
The celebrations of Bulgaria's Unification Day are traditionally held the night of September 6 in Plovdiv, the city which once was the capital of the Ottoman province of Eastern Roumelia (Ανατολική Ρωμυλία) invented by the European Great Powers at the Berlin Congress in July 1878.
On September 6, 1885, the Principality of Bulgaria unified with the autonomous Ottoman province of Eastern Roumelia (Ανατολική Ρωμυλία), a few years after its liberation from Ottoman rule.
President, Rosen Plevneliev, the Speaker of the Parliament, Tsetska Tsacheva, the Ministers of Finance, Simeon Djankov, of Economy and Energy, Delyan Dobrev, of Education, Sergey Ignatov, and of Youth and Sports, Svilen Neykov, the former Minister for Bulgarians Abroad and Director of the National History Museum, Bozhidar Dimitrov, Members of the Parliament, diplomats and other officials are also in Plovdiv Thursday.
The Unification is not a political, but a spiritual act, Plovdiv bishop Nikolay said during the solemn mass.
