Spanish government rejects proposal for referendum in Catalonia

The Spanish government does not share the proposal for a new referendum on the independence of Catalonia, put forward this Tuesday by the head of the autonomous community, Pere Aragones, said government spokeswoman Pilar Alegría.
“The position expressed by Aragones is his position, but it is in no way the position of the government, and certainly not the general position of the majority of Catalan society,” the spokeswoman responded to journalists’ questions after the Council of Ministers meeting.
