Police update number of those dead in stabbing attack at Australian shopping center to 5

At least five people have been killed in a stabbing attack at a shopping center in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday, a New South Wales police spokesman told local television.

The Sydney Morning Herald said earlier that up to six people had been killed in what it called a stabbing spree. "Many more" are in a critical condition, a police source told the Australian newspaper.

According to the police spokesman, the attacker has been shot dead.
