Vučić announced his resignation as head of the Serbian Progressive Party

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced on May 26 that he was stepping down as chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

“Today is the last evening when I address you as the chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party. Tomorrow I will be the leader of all citizens of Serbia, and not the chairman of a political party. Great people will stand up for the leadership of our party,” he said at a nationwide rally in support of the country's government.

Vučić took over the Serbian Progressive Party on May 24, 2012 after its previous leader, Tomislav Nikolic, was elected president of the country. Since then, the SNA has won the most seats in every parliamentary election.

Serbia will call an emergency meeting of the country’s Security Council over the escalation of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija after the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo tries to take control of the buildings of local administrations, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Friday.

"They waited for the day when many men from northern Kosovo and Metohija go to Belgrade and attacked municipal buildings in Zvecan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavic. The ‘quint’ (the UK, Germany, Italy, the US, and France) representatives now condemn this but they allowed the Albanians to do that. We will hold a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss what will happen in Kosovo and Metohija," he said at a nationwide pro-government rally.
