Russia ready to continue providing reliable gas supplies to Hungary — Deputy PM

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has assured Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto that Russia was ready to continue to provide reliable gas supplies to Hungary, the Russian government said in a statement on Tuesday.

Earlier today, Szijjarto and Novak held talks in Moscow, that were also attended by representatives of the Finance Ministry, Energy Ministry, Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom, Transneft company.

"In accordance with contractual obligations, oil and gas supplies are carried out from Russia to Hungary. We have been cooperating in these areas since the 1960s. Russia has always been a reliable supplier of energy resources, in the future we are also ready to provide reliable supplies to Hungary," Novak said.

The parties discussed ways to ensure safe gas transit to Hungary via the TurkStream gas pipeline and the implementation of the Paks-2 NPP project.

Szijjarto, in turn, thanked Novak for moving forward in the field of energy cooperation, which allows Hungary to pursue a sovereign policy even in the face of increasing external pressure.

"I want to thank you for the fact that Russian enterprises are and will continue to be our reliable partners. This cooperation guarantees the energy supply to our country. You are reliable suppliers for us. I hope we are reliable buyers for you. We are interested in maintaining cooperation in the same form," Szijjarto emphasized.
