Moldovan opposition demands government pay people’s gas, electricity, heating bills - TASS

Participants in an opposition rally in central Chisinau on Sunday passed a resolution with an ultimatum to the government demanding it pays people’s gas, electricity and heating bills by Monday.

The resolution was read out by Marina Tauber, a vice leader of the opposition party Sor.

"We ask the government to pay people’s gas, electricity and heating bills for the three winters months. We are waiting for an answer for 24 hours. If the government does not respond to our demand by 13:00 on Monday, we reserve the right to take necessary measures to make it implement people’s will," she said at the end of the rally and headed to the government to hand over the ultimatum.

Several thousand people took part in the protest rally in Chisinau on Sunday. The protesters blamed the authorities for a seven-fold growth of gas prices, for the economic crisis, for jingoist and anti-Russian rhetoric, and for the pressure on the opposition.

Grass-roots protests have been held in Moldova since the summer of 2022 demanding resignation of President Maia Sandu and early parliamentary elections.
