Car blast in Energodar kills police officer - VIDEO

A police officer died as a result of a car explosion in Energodar, the police department of the Zaporozhye Region reported on Friday.

"The police department of the city of Energodar in the Zaporozhye Region received a message that a car exploded on one of the streets. Preliminarily it has been established that as a result of the blast an employee of the territorial body of internal affairs was killed. A group of detectives is working on site and all the circumstances of the incident are being investigated," the report on the Telegram channel of the Chief Directorate of Internal Affairs said.

Earlier on Friday, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the ‘We are Together with Russia’ movement, said that the terrorists used several kilograms of explosives to carry out the terror attack in Energodar.

"The explosion was so strong that it left nothing of this car.  A neighboring vehicle that was parked nearby was also completely destroyed, windows up to the ninth floor were blown out in several entrances. The blast was very powerful, I can't yet say how much [explosives] there were, but we are talking about several kilograms," Rogov said on the air of the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station.

According to Rogov's assessment, the attack in Energodar was committed with the aim of killing the police officer. "It was his car, at that time he was going to work.  The attack was committed with the intention of killing [him]. There is a hunt for everyone who is trying to restore order and a peaceful life to the liberated territory.  One of the objectives is the possibility of paralyzing the activities of law enforcement agencies," he added.

Rogov noted that the deceased police officer had previously worked in the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, after the liberation of Energodar he went on to serve in the People's Militia, and later in the Russian Interior Ministry.

On Friday, at about 07:50, a blast rocked Energodar. A car exploded, killing one person. The fire has been extinguished, and experts are examining the scene for explosives to rule out the possibility of another blast.
