Russian envoy blames anti-Russian resolution on poor education of EP members

The European Parliament’s resolution declaring Russia as a "state sponsor of terrorism" indicates major shortfalls in the education of EP members and their misunderstanding of the very meaning of the word "terrorism", Russia's representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said on Thursday.

"The European Parliament has declared Russia a 'state sponsor of terrorism'. If they really wanted to offend Russia, they could have tried to do so at a higher intellectual level. The resolution highlighted shortfalls in the education of EP members, in particular, their misunderstanding of the very meaning of the term ‘terrorism’," Ulyanov wrote on his Twitter page.

The European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday adopted a resolution in which Russia is referred to as a "country sponsoring terrorism." The text of the document was published on the advisory body’s website. The adopted resolution "recognizes Russia as a sponsor of terrorism and a state that uses means of terrorism." The EP resolutions have no legal force and are advisory in nature, but are widely used in the EU’s media and political environment of the EU to promote and disseminate specific political viewpoints.
