Israeli Missiles Fired at Aleppo, Damascus Airfields Destroyed by Syrian Air Defense - Tasnim News Agency

The Syrian news agency SANA reported on Wednesday that the country's air defense destroyed a number of Israeli missiles that were launched toward Aleppo International Airport.

Additionally, it was asserted that another missile attack over Damascus was deflected by Syrian air defenses.

According to Maj. Gen. Oleg Egorov, deputy director of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria, Syrian air defense forces intercepted and shot down three Israeli missiles that were aimed at airfields in Aleppo and Damascus.

"Eight F-16 tactical fighters of the Israeli Air Force, without entering Syrian airspace, struck with eight guided missiles and eight guided air bombs at the facilities of the Nairab (Aleppo) and Duwali (Damascus) airfields. Three missiles were destroyed by the duty air defense forces of the Syrian Arab Republic," he said at a briefing, Sputnik reported.

The antenna post of the Syrian S-125 air defense system, two warehouses filled with military supplies, and the inactive runway at the Nairab airfield were all destroyed, he continued, adding that five Syrian soldiers were also wounded.

Syria and the Israeli regime are technically at war due to the latter’s 1967-to-present occupation of the Arab country’s Golan Heights. Israel maintains a significant military presence in the territory, which it uses as one of its launching pads for attacks against the Syrian soil.
