Lviv: High-precision missiles hit the Beskidy railway tunnel in the Carpathian Mountains

--

 1. Lviv regional governor Maksym Kozytskyy said five people were wounded in the strike, adding that more information would be available Thursday.

Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the country’s interior minister, said the Russians hit the Beskidy railway tunnel in the Carpathian Mountains in an apparent effort to cut a key railway link and disrupt shipments of weapons and fuel.

However, the head of Ukrainian railways said the damage to the railroad was still being assessed but the tunnel was spared.

2. The Russian Aerospace Forces launched a strike with high-precision missiles at the strategically important Beksidy railway tunnel. This is the only tunnel in the Carpathians through which up to 60% of cargo transit to Ukraine from Western and Central Europe passes.

Missiles were launched through the tunnel on June 1 from ships of the Black Sea Fleet.

The Beksidy Tunnel is the largest tunnel built in Ukraine since 1991. Laid in the Carpathian mountains. Length - 2 kilometers.

It is part of the Lviv railway and is located between the Beskid station (Lviv region, Prykarpattya) and the Skotarskoye station (Transcarpathian region).

The tunnel is part of the 5th pan-European transport corridor (Italy - Slovenia - Hungary - Slovakia - Ukraine - Russia).
