Food shortages threaten not so much Ukraine as countries that import its agricultural products - organization

(Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine has stockpiles of basic crops to last for several years, which is why the blocking of Ukrainian sea ports threatens not so much Ukraine's food security as the food security of countries that import Ukrainian agricultural products.

"The problem with food supplies is now more significant in countries where we delivered them to rather than in Ukraine," the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Association said on its website on Monday.

Ukraine is one of the world's top agricultural producers and exporters of agricultural products, the organization said. Thus, Ukraine is the world's fifth largest exporter of wheat, the world's fourth largest exporter of corn, the world's third biggest exporter of barley, and the world's top exporter of sunflower seed oil. Besides, Ukraine accounts for a considerable share of the global market for walnut, honey, and other agricultural products.

Thanks to it, the country has significant stockpiles of wheat, two-year stockpiles of corn, and five-year stockpiles of sunflower seed oil. According to the Ukrainian Agribusiness Clun Association, winter crops are in quite a good condition this season.
