S. Korea's foreign ministry rejects U.S. lawmakers' concerns about end-of-war declaration

--

Seoul's foreign ministry rejected concerns expressed in a letter by members of the U.S. Congress... strongly opposing a formal end to the Korean War,... saying Americans have a range of opinions on the matter.

Commenting on the letter Wednesday, a ministry official said the declaration is simply a political statement with no legal impact,... and that it will not pose serious risks to U.S. Forces Korea... or stability in the region.

The official reaffirmed it would be used only as a starting point for talks on denuclearization,... and that a peace treaty would be signed once that's achieved.

The letter was sent by 35 U.S. Representatives to the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan... expressing concern about the war being declared over... without the North committing to complete denuclearization.
