The US Department of Defense said on Monday that it continued to see unusual military activity and a concentration of Russian forces near its border with Ukraine.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the build-up was concerning and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin would meet his Ukrainian counterpart on Thursday.
Kirby declined to speculate about the purpose of the Russian military movements and did not offer further details.

The foreign ministers of the two countries, Jean-Yves Le Drian and Heiko Maas, met with their Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Brussels on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the Eastern Partnership, a forum that aims to improve the political and economic trade relations of the post-Soviet states of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
