UN not in position place blame on Saudi Arabia for bombing refugees
Spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) William Spindler commented on the deaths and injuries of a number of internally displaced persons in an aerial attack on the embattled Mawza district in Yemen’s Taiz governorate, speaking from Geneva on Wednesday.

“What we know is that there was a vehicle that was moving and that was carrying a number of people, and the vehicle came under aerial attack, and as a result of this, at least 20 people were killed, many more were injured, and many of those killed and injured were members of the same family,” Spindler stated. He added that a number of the survivors were transferred to local hospitals for treatment.

Spindler went on to say that the victims “had been displaced by the fighting in al-Mokha region of Taiz province, which has been the scene of heavy fighting in the last few weeks and months.”

“These people had already been fleeing conflict when they tragically found their death in this way,” he continued.

When asked who was behind the attack, the spokesperson said that the UNHCR is “not in a position to ascertain who is to blame for this,” before adding that “all side of the conflict need to stop actions that endanger the lives of civilians.”
