Lebanon's Shiite Islamist movement Hezbollah announced on Sunday that it had freed 64 percent of radical-held areas in the country's northeast, near the Syrian border, after two days of fighting.
Hezbollah launched an offensive on Friday in Arsal _ a region located 120 kilometers (75 miles) to the northeast of Beirut _ to liberate it from "militants" of al-Qaida's former affiliate Jabhat Fateh al-Sham ("Front for the Conquest of the Levant"), with the support of forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
