Russia Warns US Syria Strike Bolsters Terrorists, Hopes for Fruitful Talks with Tillerson

Russian Foreign Ministry warned on Tuesday that the United States’ missile strike on a military airfield in Syria is an act of aggression that violates international law and bolsters terrorists , the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Tuesday.


“The recent US missile attack on the Sha’irat Syrian government forces airbase, representing an act of aggression against a sovereign state in violation of international law, leads to the reinforcement of terrorists,” the ministry said in a statement.

“In this context, a reasonable question arises: does Washington plan to move to real cooperation with us in countering terrorism, including in Syria?” the Russian ministry wondered.

Meanwhile, commenting on a planned Moscow visit by US Secretary of State R. Tillerson, the Russian foreign ministry hoped for fruitful negotiations.

“In connection with the beginning of today’s working visit to Russia by US Secretary of State R. Tillerson, we would like to note that we are counting on productive negotiations,” the ministry said.

Tillerson is visiting Moscow on Tuesday and Wednesday for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“This is important not only for the prospects of further bilateral interaction, but also for the general atmosphere in the international arena,” the ministry underscored.
