Tillerson says policy of strategic patience with North Korea has ended

The United States Secretary of State said Friday from Seoul that the diplomatic policy of strategic patience followed by the Barack Obama administration with North Korea is over, and the best option for Pyongyang is to abandon its nuclear program.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his South Korean counterpart, Yun Byung-se, Rex Tillerson stressed that Washington is planning to change its policy towards the Kim Jong-un regime, without offering further details.

Tillerson also strongly criticized the measures taken by China against South Korea because of its deployment of the US-built THAAD anti-missile system to intercept North Korean missiles, calling the Chinese response "inappropiate and troubling".
