Putin highlights Russia and Turkey as driving force in Syrian ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken highly of Ankara’s role in securing the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

Speaking at the presentation of credentials ceremony, the Russian leader spoke about his recent talks with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Moscow.

"We outlined further steps in the context of the fight against terrorism in Syria and the political settlement in that country," Putin said.

He noted that "it was possible to achieve the cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government troops and the armed opposition largely thanks to the vigorous role played by Russia and Turkey," Putin said.

"We know what role was played by Turkey and highly appreciate it," the Russian president added.
