Iran Criticizes Turkish Police for Not Informing Iranian Embassy about Protest

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi strongly criticized the Turkish police for not fulfilling its duty of informing Iran's diplomatic mission in that country about an imminent protest rally in front of Tehran's embassy in Ankara.

"The demonstration took place with no prior notice by the Turkish police to the Iranian embassy officials," Qassemi told reporters on Monday.

He reiterated that the Iranian foreign ministry is fully informed about the participants of demonstration in front of the country's embassy in the Turkish capital.

"The demonstration took place with no prior notice by the Turkish police to the Iranian embassy officials," Qassemi added.

The Iranian foreign ministry official stressed that Turkish police had to inform the embassy of such protest, and said, "The protest occurred at midnight at an irregular hour."

He also said that another protest took place in front of Iran's Istanbul representative office in a more restricted form.

In both cases, he noted, Iran summoned the Turkish ambassador to Tehran to convey its protest to such events.
