Indian firing kills four civilians, says Pak army

Pakistan army said Monday that India cross-border firing has killed at least four civilians.

"Indian targeting of civil population by unprovoked firing on LoC (Line of Control) continues," an army statement said.

The statement said "four civilians embraced shahadat (martyrdom) at LoC in Nakial sector while six civilians were seriously injured."

The Pakistan army troops are "effectively targeting Indian posts for heavy casualties," the late Monday statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

Exchange of fire continued till late night, the army said.

The recent casualties say that the escalations along the LoC and the Working Boundary now cause civilians casualties.

On Friday the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said that six civilians, including two women, were killed by the Indian "unprovoked" firing in two days at the Working Boundary and the LoC.

Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the LoC and the Working Boundary. Both accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.

  • The escalations started after the gunmen stormed an Indian army center in its controlled Kashmir last month and killed 19 soldiers.

India had blamed the Pakistan-based "Jaish-e-Mohammad" group. Pakistan had denied any hand and called for independent investigation.
