String of Bombings Hits Syria, At Least 40 civilians killed

A string of explosions Monday struck several government-held Syrian towns and a city held by the Kurdish militia in Syria.

"Clearly these attacks were simultaneous and they all targeted security posts," Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told the French news agency.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

Eleven people were killed and 45 were wounded in a double bombing on the Arzuna bridge in the northwestern coastal city of Tartus. State television said "two terrorist blasts on Arzuna bridge, the first a car bomb and the second a suicide bomber who detonated his explosive belt when people gathered to help the wounded."

Reports said at least two people were killed and four were wounded at a military checkpoint in Homs in the Bab Tadmore neighborhood.

Elsewhere, it was not immediately clear whether there were casualties from the explosion on the Al-Sabura road outside of the capital Damascus.

In northeastern Hasakeh, controlled by the Kurdish militia, state media said at least three people were killed when a motorcycle exploded.
