Kurdish-led forces have retreated from northern positions and turned their focus toward the Islamic State's (IS) Syrian headquarters of Raqqa, the United States-led military coalition said on Thursday.
The announcement was made by the spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) on his official Twitter account.
The operational U-turn comes following US-Turkey demands that the SDF, headed by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), turn back across the river.
Kurdish forces have seen considerable territorial gain from IS in the region, including this month's liberation of Manbij, and had set their sights on Jarabulus, a border town that has languished under jihadist control for three years.
The Kurdish operations were interrupted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan when, early on Wednesday, Turkey launched its largest known military incursion into Syrian territory, sending tanks and vetted Syrian rebels into Jarabulus.
The Turkish Army targeted both IS and YPG positions in the area, as both groups are considered terrorist organizations by Ankara.
The operation reportedly pushed IS out of Jarabulus in less than 15 hours.
The two-thousand-year-old northern Syrian city fell in 2014 to IS, who declared Raqqa its Syrian headquarters.
