Serbia made it clear to EU it won't tolerate humiliation

In a written statement to the press, carried by the Serbian government's website, Dacic said that Belgrade "made it clear to the EU that it seeks mutual respect and that it will not tolerate blackmail and humiliation."

Dacic added that this was "the only way to defend our national interests, while continuing on our European road."

He expressed hope that the European Union "learned lessons that there will not be double standards any more when it comes to Serbia."

"This decision is also a recognition for consistent and reform policy of the government of Serbia and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, which yesterday at a summit in Paris encountered the full verification by the leading figures of the most important countries in Europe and the EU itself," Dacic said.

  • Croatia officially backs opening of chapter 23 ...

After over three months of opposition, Croatia on Tuesday officially consented to a draft EU negotiating position on chapter 23 in accession talks with Serbia.

This took place during a meeting of the Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the EU (COELA), Tanjug has reported.

European diplomatic sources have told the agency that official information on the EU consensus on the opening of Chapter 23 should be released at around 5 pm Tuesday.

Sources in the Slovak EU presidency told Tanjug that, as soon as the official information arrived, the presidency would take steps related to verification of the consensus at Thursday's meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) and calling an intergovernmental conference to open the chapters.

Diplomatic sources in Brussels said that the result of Tuesday's meeting and discussions on the opening of Chapter 23 was mostly based on the compromise reached at the Paris summit of Western Balkan and EU leaders Monday.
