The Bastille Day attacker who killed at least 84 people in the French Riviera city of Nice had been planning the attack for months with the help of at least five accomplices, the Paris prosecutor has said.
"The investigation under way since the night of July 14 has progressed and not only confirmed the murderous premeditated nature of Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel's act but also established that he benefitted from support and complicity," Francois Molins told a news conference
Bouhlel's suspected accomplices consisted of four men and a woman, all of whom are in custody.
More than 400 investigators have been poring over evidence since the 14 July attack in which Bouhlel drove a truck into crowds celebrating France's national holiday, leaving 84 dead and more than 300 people injured.
The five suspects will be presented to anti-terrorism judges later today and Mr Molins said prosecutors had requested they be charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism, among other crimes.

In one chilling turn of events, Molins said that one of the suspects, a Tunisian named Mohamed Oualid G., had filmed the scene of the crime the day after the carnage, as it crawled with paramedics and journalists.....i24news.tv

"À l'issue de leur garde à vue, cinq personnes ont été déférées, quatre hommes et une femme", a-t-il annoncé. Aucun n'est connu des services spécialisés de renseignement et seul l'un d'entre eux a déjà été condamné pour des délits de droit commun.
Il s'agit de deux Franco-Tunisiens – Ramzy A. et Mohamed Walid G. –, un Tunisien – Choukri C. – et un couple d'Albanais.

Die französische Staatsanwaltschaft geht nach neuen Ermittlungserkenntnissen davon aus, dass der Angreifer von Nizza Unterstützung bei der Vorbereitung seines Anschlags hatte. Sie wirft fünf Verdächtigen - vier Männern und einer Frau - unter anderem Beteiligung an einer terroristischen Vereinigung vor und beantragte für sie Untersuchungshaft. Sie wurden bereits einem Richter vorgeführt.
Zwei von ihnen waren nach Erkenntnissen der Ermittler an den Tagen vor dem Anschlag mit dem Attentäter in dem gemieteten 19-Tonnen-Lastwagen, den er später für seine Tat nutzte. Der Staatsanwalt François Molins stützt sich auf die Auswertung von Kommunikationsdaten und Fotos.
So wurden auf einem Handy des Täters Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel Bilder von zwei Feuerwerken und einem Konzert auf der Strandpromenade von Nizza im Sommer 2015 gefunden. Der Fokus lag dabei jeweils auf der Menschenmenge. Er hatte auch einen Zeitungsartikel gespeichert, bei dem es um einen Mann ging, der mit einem Fahrzeug auf eine Restaurantterrasse raste.....tagesschau.de
