Syria says some UN SC members conduct policy of double standards in anti-terrorism efforts

Refusal of some of member countries of the United Nations Security Council to list extremist groups Ahrar al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam as terrorist organizations speaks about double standards used by some states in the anti-terrorism policy, the Syrian foreign ministry said on Sunday in its letters to the United Nations Secretary General and the United Nations Security Council over ongoing terrorist attacks in Aleppo.

The ministry condemned the rejection of representatives of the United States, France, Britain and Ukraine in the United Nations Security Council to put Jaysh al-Islam and Ahrar al-Sham on the Council’s list of terrorist groups.

This refusal, according to the letters, proves that these countries continue to use double standards regarding the fight against terrorism and are not serious about this fight.

The ministry stressed that Ahrar al-Sham and Jaysh al-Islam aggression in Aleppo is an attempt to break down the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva and undermine the basic principles of the regime of cessation of hostilities in Syria.

Damascus demanded the United Nations Security Council condemn terrorist activities of the groups that are involved in shelling of Aleppo’s residential quarters and take urgent measures against countries supporting such groups, first of all Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.
