Abkhazia does not plan on holding a referendum to join Russia.

Abkhazia is not going to follow the example of South Ossetia and plans not to hold a referendum on joining the Russian Federation, Prime Minister Artur mikvabia said.

According to him, intentions clear South Ossetia – North Ossetia remains part of Russia, and there is a desire to unite the two parts, reports NEWSru.com.

Abkhazia paid dearly for their freedom and would like to remain an independent state and a reliable ally of Russia, said mikvabia.

Russia recognized Abkhazia and Ossetia as independent States in 2008 after the war with Georgia. The Russian example was followed by Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Tuvalu.
