Stoltenberg announced a crucial decision at the NATO summit in Warsaw

At the NATO summit in Warsaw will be made a watershed decision in the matter of the presence of forces of NATO in Eastern Europe. This statement was made by Secretary General of the organization Jens Stoltenberg, reports Polskie Radio.

According to him, the summit will identify the key positions on how to adapt to the new situation in the security sphere, including taking into account Russia’s actions. “We must strengthen NATO’s presence in Eastern Europe, it will be a multinational presence. Thus, we will give a clear signal that an attack on one country is an attack on the whole NATO”, — quotes TASS Stoltenberg.

The Secretary General noted that some allies, particularly the US, UK and Germany, have already confirmed their intention to strengthen the Eastern flank of the Alliance. “There are still many details that need to be clarified and completed. We will discuss them with the experts and will make the final decision at the NATO summit”, — quotes the words of Stoltenberg portal TVP.info.

Stoltenberg once again emphasized that this cooperation is purely defensive, it is not directed against any state.

May 21, Stoltenberg said that the Alliance does not want new cold war with Russia. However, he noted that the Alliance “‘ve been watching how Russia is investing intensively in the armed forces”. According to him, NATO is only responsible for these actions and strengthens the defense, as well as avoiding escalation and maintains an open dialogue. The Secretary General also said that currently the Alliance does not see an immediate threat from Moscow.

Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to NATO Alexander Grushko said that in recent years in some countries of the Alliance are increasingly talking about the need to resume political dialogue with Russia. According to the diplomat, many Europeans realized the futility of attempts to isolate Russia.

Russia has repeatedly stated that he sees the approach of NATO troops to its territory as a security threat. 9 Oct 2015 Grushko said that Moscow will do everything necessary to preserve the balance of military forces in Europe, but does not want a new arms race.
